Wedding Crèche in the Midlands: Venues, Travel and Planning Tips
Planning a wedding crèche in the Midlands? Our guide covers barns, Birmingham hotels, Cotswold marquees, travel and what to ask your venue. Get a quote.
In this guide
Planning a wedding crèche in the Midlands starts with your venue. A Worcestershire barn, a Birmingham hotel and a Cotswold marquee each need a different plan for children, and the easiest time to make that plan is before you book. Happy Little Guests is a pop-up event crèche based in Redditch, Worcestershire. We bring qualified, DBS checked carers, a full set of activities and a cosy story den to weddings across Worcestershire, Birmingham and the West Midlands, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire. This guide covers the venue types you will find around the region, what each one means for little guests, and the questions worth putting to your venue coordinator.
If you are new to the idea, it may help to read what a wedding crèche is first. In short: a safe, separate space at your venue where children play, create and rest with professional carers, while their parents stay on site and enjoy the day.
Where can you find a wedding crèche in the Midlands?
Midlands weddings come in every shape: a converted barn near Bromsgrove, a hotel function room in Birmingham, a marquee on a Cotswold lawn, a country house in Shropshire. We are a mobile crèche, so we bring the whole set-up to you, and we shape it around the room we are given.
The counties we cover
Charlotte plans every booking personally. She has nearly a decade of childcare experience in private nurseries and primary schools, and works regularly with children with special educational needs. You can read more about Charlotte and Happy Little Guests on our home page. We cover:
- Worcestershire, from Redditch and Bromsgrove to Worcester, Evesham and the Malvern Hills, so if you need a wedding creche in Worcestershire, we are local.
- Birmingham and the West Midlands, including city hotels, Solihull and the Black Country. Many couples search for a wedding nanny in the West Midlands, and a crèche is often the better fit when there are several children. Our guide to a wedding nanny or a wedding crèche compares the two.
- Warwickshire, including Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Leamington Spa, for wedding childcare in Warwickshire.
- Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
How travel works
Travel up to 20 miles from Redditch is included. Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Alcester, Henley-in-Arden, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon and south Birmingham usually fall inside that, and the quote checks your exact venue postcode rather than guessing from the town. If your venue is further afield, the extra travel is shown in the instant quote before you book.
Barn and country estate weddings: lawns, side rooms and boundaries
Barns and country estates are a Midlands favourite, and children love the space to run and explore. They do need a little more thought than a hotel.
Make the most of the lawn
A big lawn is made for parachute games, music and movement, and outdoor games. We plan active play for when children are most restless, often the drinks reception and photographs, so they come back calmer for the meal.
Find a side room or tipi for the crèche
The lawn is for play, but the crèche itself needs a base: a side room, a snug, a converted stable or a tipi set aside just for the children. That base is where sign-in and sign-out happen, where the craft table lives and where we build our story den with its teepee and fairy lights.
Barns with high ceilings and stone or brick floors can turn chilly once the sun drops, even in June, so check whether the side room has heating of its own rather than relying on the main barn.
Questions to ask about water and boundaries
Country venues often have features that look beautiful in photos and need a plan when children are around. Ask your venue:
- Are there ponds, lakes, streams, fountains or water features near the lawn or the crèche room?
- Where are the boundaries, and are they fenced? Is there a ha-ha (a sunken wall that looks like flat lawn from one side and has a real drop on the other)?
- Is there a car park or a gravel drive close by where cars will be arriving and leaving all day?
- Will there be fire pits, lanterns or candles outside in the evening?
None of these rule a venue out. They simply tell us where our play area should and should not be.

City and hotel weddings in Birmingham
A wedding creche in Birmingham looks quite different from one in a barn. City hotels are warm, dry and close to good transport. The challenges are mostly about layout.
Lifts, lobbies and function rooms
Function rooms are often upstairs or along a corridor shared with other guests, and lobbies are open to the public. For us that means:
- Choosing a crèche room away from the main lobby, with one clear door where every child is signed in and signed out.
- Agreeing a lift route and a loading point for our kit, so we set up before your guests arrive and pack down quietly at the end.
- Knowing where the nearest toilets and baby changing are, so a toilet trip never means a walk through a busy bar.
Why a separate quiet room matters
Ballrooms get loud once the band or DJ starts. A separate room gives children somewhere to colour, play and later flop into the story den for a rest, and parents enjoy the first dance knowing exactly where their little ones are.
Many Birmingham hotels also host conferences and awards nights, and the same set-up works well for corporate event childcare, from family days to summer parties.
Cotswold and countryside weddings: marquees and a weather plan
If you are booking a crèche for a Cotswolds wedding, there is a good chance a marquee is involved, along with a very British question: what happens if it rains?

Here is how we plan for it:
- Ask for a dry indoor space. A side room, a barn or a small separate marquee gives the children a warm, dry base, even if the lawn is out of action.
- Mind the guy ropes and pegs. Running children and tent ropes do not mix. We keep active games well away from the edges of the marquee.
- Think about heating. Marquees cool quickly in the evening, so a heated side room is often the cosiest base, and any marquee heaters should sit well away from where the children play.
- Pack for mud. Ask parents to bring wellies and a change of clothes.
Charlotte's tip Ask your venue for its wet weather plan before you book, not the week before. If the ceremony moves indoors, the crèche room often has to move too, and it is far easier to agree a second option early.
What to ask your venue about a crèche room
At Happy Little Guests we never assume a venue is suitable for children; we ask. These are the questions we go through, and you are welcome to send them straight to your venue coordinator:
- How big is the room? We need space for a craft table, an open area for games and a quiet corner for the story den.
- How far is it from the main room? Close enough that parents can pop in, far enough that a giggle does not carry into the vows or the speeches.
- Where are the nearest toilets? Ideally a few steps away, with hand-washing and baby changing nearby.
- Will it be warm enough? We ask for 18°C or more, which matters most in barns and marquees after dark.
- What access is there for set-up and pack-down? We need the room 45 minutes before the crèche starts and for 30 minutes after it ends, plus parking and a loading point close by.
- Where are the fire exits and the assembly point? We check the fire procedure on arrival and make sure every carer knows it.
- Can the room be kept just for the children? A private room or a clearly sectioned-off area, with no other guests passing through it as a cut-through or cloakroom.
We work with your venue and planner
You should not have to be the go-between. Once you book, we liaise with your venue and your planner so the crèche fits around the ceremony, the photographs, the meal and the speeches. Mapping out a child-friendly wedding timeline early helps everyone, because it shows exactly when the children need cover and when they will be with their parents.
Ceremony in one place, reception in another?
Plenty of Midlands couples marry in a village church or a register office and then move on to a barn, hotel or marquee. In that case the crèche usually runs at the reception venue. Children travel with their parents like every other guest, and we are set up and ready when they arrive. The drive and the ceremony stay family time, and the crèche opens for the drinks reception, which is usually when children need it most.
Seasonal tips for a Midlands wedding with children
The weather changes a wedding day for children almost as much as the venue does, so it is worth planning for the season you have chosen.

Spring weddings
Spring days can swing from sunshine to showers and back again, and the evenings are still cool. Ask parents to pack a warm layer and wellies alongside the party shoes, and keep an indoor base for the crèche even if you are hoping for the lawn.
Summer garden weddings
Long, light evenings mean more time outdoors. We look for shade for the play area and plan plenty of water breaks. Ask parents to put sun cream on their children before they arrive and to pack a sun hat and a named water bottle.
Autumn and winter weddings
In winter the light goes early, and the evening part of the day can feel very long for small children. Our story den is built for this part of the day: a teepee, soft cushions and fairy lights in a warm room, with calm, sensory-friendly activities as the night goes on. Some autumn and winter weddings end with sparklers or fireworks, so it helps to know the timings in advance. Children who find loud bangs hard can stay snug inside with us, and those who want to watch can go out with their parents.
Good to know Many parents bring pyjamas for the evening. Changing into them in the crèche room makes it much easier for little ones to settle, and to be carried to the car at the end without a fuss.
